Mojari smell care begins with what happens between wears. A pair packed away immediately after a long event may need a better airing and storage routine. Identify the lining and upper materials before trying a cleaner, powder or fragrance inside the shoes.

Let the pair air after use

Place the footwear in a suitable ventilated area and follow the maker’s drying guidance. Do not put a damp pair straight into a tightly closed box. Strong direct heat is not a universal solution and may affect finishes or construction, so use the method recommended for that model.

Rotate when practical

If you wear ethnic footwear frequently, allow a pair to dry fully before the next outing. Rotation also gives you time to notice lining wear, loose threads or marks. Keep socks clean when you use them, and confirm that any sock change still gives a suitable fit.

Read lining instructions separately

The inside may use a different material from the visible upper. Ask whether the lining can be wiped, whether a specific cleaner is approved, and whether removable components are intended to come out. Do not detach a fixed footbed simply because it appears possible to lift it.

Avoid masking an unresolved issue

  • Do not assume perfume is a cleaning method.
  • Do not add loose powder without checking compatibility.
  • Do not soak the pair unless the maker permits it.
  • Keep stored footwear dry and away from damp cupboard surfaces.

What if the smell persists?

Ask the seller or a footwear cleaning professional about the specific materials and condition. If you notice visible mould, significant lining damage or another unusual change, seek an assessment before continuing a normal cleaning routine. This guide does not diagnose foot or skin conditions.

For occasional festive shoes, review the cupboard before the next event rather than discovering the problem on the day. Inspect, air and organise the pair ahead of time, keeping it separate from damp clothing or tightly packed travel items. A consistent routine helps you make decisions before the next wear.
